I want to register with CLA Personnel. What do I need to do?
The first step is to send us your most up-to-date resume. It will be reviewed by our recruitment team, and if your resume is selected, a member of our team will contact you to arrange an interview.

Are there registration fees?
No. Registration is free.

Do you keep part of my salary?
No. That is a widespread belief that is untrue. The client pays for our services. When you register with CLA, you are required to tell us your salary requirements. Before each contract, your hourly rate will be confirmed with you. For example, if your contract stipulates that you get $14.00 an hour, that is what you will be paid, plus a 4% vacation pay.

Do you have contracts with the Federal Government?
Yes. CLA Personnel holds a permanent offer with the Federal Government.

Do you only offer contract positions?
No. Many of our private sector clients are looking for full time employees. We offer permanent placements services to our clients.

Do I have to be bilingual?
No. You do not have to be bilingual to submit your resume, however the majority of the positions we fill require bilingual candidates.

Can a client for whom I am working hire me?
Yes. However, there are certain time obligations and restrictions. Your CLA advisor can let you know about the minimum time requirements involved.

I would like to know if I am entitled to a paid holiday in my situation?
Standards are different from one province to another. First, you need to determine if you are working in Ontario or Québec, and then consult our employees’ guide to find out more or get more details about the current labour standards of your province of employment by visiting:
Commission des Normes du Travail du Québec
Ministry of Labour of Ontario

Do I have to pass examinations?
Yes. Each candidate in the administrative support category must pass a series of exams to finalize their file with CLA Personnel. Tests are administered to assess the candidate’s typing speed, grammar, punctuation and spelling, clerical skills, and knowledge of recognized computer programs. The tests are administered in the candidate’s first language. Candidates must also pass bilingual exams to assess their mastery of the second language. In addition, part of your interview with a consultant will be held in English to evaluate your ability to express yourself and answer questions in your second language.

Can I get security clearance through CLA Personnel?
Yes. You must get security clearance for any job with the Government of Canada. The level of security clearance is determined by the nature of the work to be performed, the sensitivity of records handled or the activities are undertaken. Given that we have a Temporary Help Supplier status, the Department of Public Works and Government Services authorizes us to file applications on behalf of our employees in order to serve the needs of the Government of Canada. The security screening is sponsored by CLA Personnel and is carried out by the Department’s Industrial Security Division.

Employees

I need an employee for a few weeks. How does this work? How much will it cost me?
To start, we require as precise a job description as possible, including the hours of work, the length of the term and the skills and qualifications required. CLA Personnel will then find the available candidate that best suits your criteria. The chosen employee is assigned to your business, while we remain their employer, and are therefore responsible for all related employer costs, including holidays and vacations. The fixed price for our services is decided during the initial consultation between you and one of our team members. It is based on the description of the position, the complexity of the job, the number of hours of experience required, the salary requirements of each candidate and your budget.

Is there any cost to open an account with you?
No. You don’t pay anything until a CLA employee begins work at your business.

Do you offer permanent placements as well? How does it work?
Yes, we do. Many of our clients have discovered the great advantages of staffing permanent positions with CLA Personnel. To start, we require as precise a job description as possible, including the hours of work, the length of the term and the skills and qualifications required. CLA Personnel will then find the available candidate that best suits your requirements. We submit resumes of qualified pre-selected candidates for your review and schedule interviews. We can also offer personality assessments that can help in the selection process. We verify employment references and do background checks and provide our recommendations. Finally, permanent placements are guaranteed for a period of 90 days, in the event the candidate would leave his/her job or that he or she would not meet the requirements.

Do we pay for the employee’s holiday days?
No. CLA Personnel is considered their employer and is therefore responsible for holidays and vacation pay. You pay only for their hours worked.

Is there a required minimum length to a contract?
No. You can request the services of a temporary employee for a day, a week or a year. This term is flexible and can be prolonged or shortened, given a reasonable amount of warning. You are billed for a minimum of four hours a day.

Are we able to hire temporary employees sent to us by CLA Personnel?
Yes. However, there are certain time and commitment restrictions. A CLA advisor can inform you of the minimum required time that is required.

Do you test your employees competency?
Yes, using proficiency tests. We have an excellent reputation and always present the most qualified employees to our clients. Each candidate in the administrative support category must pass several exams to complete their file with CLA Personnel. Tests are administered to assess the candidate’s typing speed, grammar, punctuation and spelling, clerical skills, and knowledge of recognized computer programmes. The tests are administered in the candidate’s first language. Candidates must also pass bilingual exams to assess their mastery of the second language. In addition, part of your interview with a consultant will be held in English to evaluate your ability to express yourself and answer questions in your second language.

Do you conduct reference checks?
Yes. We ask candidates to provide employment references, which we check using a formal list of questions.
